Can my child attend Op Camp? Op Camp is a "closed" camp meaning that School Counselors from participating Title One Schools invite a handful of students with leadership potential to attend camp. Unfortunately, students may not just sign up for Op Camp without an invitation. Each student who registers must be confirmed as having been invited by their School Counselor.
How do I know my child will be safe at Op Camp? We understand how difficult it is to let your child go to camp for the first time. Here are a few reasons why you can know your child will be well cared for:
- We have one Staff for every 2 campers.
- Students are with their cabins at all times.
- Staff is with their cabins at all times.
- We have a medical professional at camp with us to make sure each child gets their medication.
- We have an experienced group of adults who are like “Auntʼs & Uncles” to our campers
What if my child takes medications? We have a medical professional that goes to each session of Op Camp. They coordinate the taking of medications and make sure each child gets what they need.
How old do students have to be in order to come to Op Camp? Students must have completed the 4th grade in order to register for camp. How many students will be at camp? We will have 125-150 students at Elementary Op Camp. We will have 70-100 students attend Transition Camp (Jr. High).
How can Op Camp be free? Op Camp is free to students because of our generous support base. The United Way of Midland has been a tremendous supporter of Op Camp along with other foundations and individuals. Each board member gives toward our mission as well as our 100 High School students who help raise money for Op Camp each year.
Can I talk to a parent who has been before? Yes! When you register as a 1st time camper, your family will be invited to a "Meet the Staff" party. We'll have pizza & swim and will have experienced mom's come and talk to you about what to expect. These mom's are fluent in English & Spanish!
Who do I call in case of emergency? During the week of camp, please call Butman Methodist Camp: (325) 846-4212. You can also call the office phone: (432) 684-7540 and we will be checking the messages daily. You may also send an email by clicking this link.
What time will the kids return from camp? We will return on Friday at 2:30 p.m. to the McGraw Event Center (1901 Culver) at Midland Christian School.
